Volk Gallery is proud to present the work of Original Copy (OC). Each Volk artist is given a size limit and budget and left to their own devices. With this brief, OC has created a DIY exhibition kit, dismantling the idea that shows only happen within gallery walls, instead encouraging us to build, adapt and live with art in our own spaces. In the ethos and spirit of OC (supporting artists, sharing knowledge and inviting people into the process of exhibition making) each kit contains the work of one of three Dundee-based artists; Amy Crawford, Ala Lewandowska, or Cheryl McGregor. Artist's Statement
Original Copy (OC) is an artist-led collective based in Dundee, creating exhibitions, collaborations and opportunities for creatives. Instructions Included presents commissioned artworks by three artists within install kits developed by OC, inviting you to step into the role of technician and facilitate the installation of original artwork in your own space.
Amy Crawford is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores liminal, emotional spaces. ‘Fragments; held' considers memory, glitches, and the intimacy of holding only part of a whole. For this collaboration a painting is broken into suspended canvases: glitches, windows, portals.
Ala Lewandowska is a multi-disciplinary artist using a combination of painting, print-making, embroidery, photography and installation. Her work explores the relationship between image-making, craft and the articulation of subjectivity through a confessional mode.
Cheryl McGregor is a Scottish collage artist & writer whose enthusiasm for poetry, the Nat Geo's film photography, 20th century media and compulsion to tear paper leads to her making analogue collages that try to say something either with a wink, a tongue in cheek or if necessary, a fist.
