Volk Gallery is proud to present the work of Gav Herron. Each Volk artist is given a size limit and budget and left to their own devices. With this brief, Herron has produced a series of illustrated prints and an accompanying ‘21st Century Funk-O-Rama’ badge. Herron’s work references popular culture, with an absurdist twist. Bubbly, cartoon pirates appear inside glass rum bottles,  sleepy tortoises act as baristas serving piping hot espressos, and zen, bearded tigers zoom into space aboard UFO’s - anything goes in Gav’s world.
Artist's Statement
Gav Herron is an artist and illustrator from Dundee. Inspired by the likes of Dr Seuss, Mary Blair and Jim Flora, he mixes the everyday with the imaginative to produce work that is instantly familiar but somewhat absurd. Never one to shy away from colour, Herron produces work that is vivid and engaging; primarily aiming to bring more fun into the world. A big fan of toys, comics and popular culture, he quotes his longtime time design hero, Saul Bass, saying, "I want to make beautiful things, even if nobody cares.”
