Volk Gallery is proud to present the work of Sarah Gillespie. Each Volk artist is given a size limit and budget and left to their own devices. With this brief, Gillespie has produced 50 wooden books. Screen-printed and with hinges acting as the traditionally glued spine, each book depicts a visit to Cromarty Beach through found objects. Broken ceramics are spread across the pages; it's as if we are with Gillespie on this trek, collecting our own small favours.
Artist's Statement
Sarah Gillespie is a Scottish interdisciplinary artist. Her work is a continuous exploration of sentiment and emotion.
Sarah's process-led practice focuses primarily in print and sculpture, working toward text-based objects, prints and installations, looking at memory, location and the idea that objects hold memories and tell stories.
The subsequent work references the finding of lost objects, Sarah's own personal experience with the feeling of loss and the connection between remembering and forgetting.
