Volk Gallery is proud to present the work of Khadea Santi. Each Volk artist is given a size limit and budget and left to their own devices. With this brief, Santi has produced 50 fortune tellers, reminiscent of those used in childhood games. Santi has developed this version at Glasgow Zine Library with written prompts guiding a poetic offering. Each fortune teller can become a tool for self-mythology and a space to connect with the unknown — a way to ask questions, hold complexity, and make something new together. Much of Santi’s work is rooted in speculation, chance, and play.
Artist's Statement
I am an artist working with film, ceramics, writing, and workshops. My practice explores themes of spiritualism, land, and memory, often drawing on West African folklore, tarot, charms, and my family's voodoo traditions. I’m interested in how we understand the world — and what we build ever growing genealogies.
I create spaces for people to come together, imagine, and experiment. Much of my work is rooted in speculation, chance, and play. I’m drawn to liminal spaces — moments of transition, uncertainty, or transformation. Through collective making, I explore how identity and memory are formed, especially in relation to the African diaspora.
My work often appears as constellations or fragments: rituals, stories, and objects that hold meaning. I am interested in how art can become a tool for self-mythology and a space to connect with the unknown — a way to ask questions, hold complexity, and make something new together.
