Volk Gallery is proud to present the work of Connor Finlayson and Jamie Stein. Each Volk artist is given a size limit and budget and left to their own devices. With this brief, Finlayson and Stein have produced 50 ‘T’ bags, acting as a medium for queer storytelling. Each edition explores how objects, flavours, and stories can create space for conversation and care, centred around queer voices often unheard, unnoticed, or unspoken in public life. Through the wonders of tea and type, Finlayson and Stein have crafted gentle prompts for conversation, or small invitations to sit with difference and get a taste of someone else’s world.
Artist's Statement
Connor Finlayson is a designer and educator from Dundee who supports others to design and develop their own skills. They co-direct Service Design Academy which people and organisations consider how their services work (or could work) so that they solve problems for people, can be accessed by everybody that needs to use them, and aren’t frustrating or difficult to use. As a freelancer at V&A Dundee, they help folks of all ages to connect with and get inspired by design and creativity. In their own work, they create and share stories, information, and stuff they think is cool - like found type of Dundee!
Jamie Stein is a Dundee-based freelance designer, educator, and mentor with nearly 20 years’ experience across the creative sector. Through Stein Design, his solo research-led brand and communication consultancy, he collaborates with organisations to create purposeful, inclusive design that brings teams and audiences into the creative journey. His work includes supporting biotech and health-tech start-ups, helping organisations communicate complex ideas with clarity and human focus. Alongside consultancy work, he teaches Graphic Design at DJCAD and delivers creative workshops at the V&A Dundee.
