Volk Gallery is proud to present the work of storyteller Erin Farley. Each Volk artist is given a size limit and budget and left to their own devices. With this brief, Farley has produced a series of recordings combining folk tales, field recordings and other collected sounds, all recorded directly to cassette.
For the opening of Cassette Memory, join Erin for a live storytelling session of tales of communication between generations, places and creatures - and maybe just a hint of haunted technology - rooted in the Dundee and Angus landscape.
Artist's Statement
Erin Farley is a storyteller and local historian based in Dundee. She is obsessed with the places where folklore, literature, history and religion messily overlap. Her favourite stories have a strong sense of place, invite you to question reality, or are about stupid men and the devil - ideally all three. Erin is a committee member and regular teller at Dundee’s Blether Tay-Gither storytelling group and the Orkney Storytelling Festival. Her first book, Angus Folk Tales, was published by the History Press in November 2021.
