Artist's Statement
Maeve Callister-Wafer is a Glasgow-based artist from the Isle of Man. She is a recent graduate in Art & Philosophy from Duncan of Jordanstone, currently completing a Master’s in Sound for the Moving Image at Glasgow School of Art.
Her practice revolves around printmaking and audiovisual composition, with her native language, Manx Gaelic, often the driving force behind her work. Looking at how the landscape and language reflect and shape each other, and the impacts of language decline and revival. ‘Çhengey as Cheer’ connects Manx and English words with the landscape and hopes to encourage us to go out into nature and maybe learn a little Manx.
