Cara Rooney

Volk Gallery is proud to present the work of Cara Rooney. Each Volk artist is given a size limit and budget and left to their own devices. With this brief, Rooney has produced a series of decorations and badges themed to Bruin; the infamous polar bear of Dundee. Enclosed is your very own tiny polar bear explorer pin badge, ready to accompany you on adventures, and a 'no bear in a box' decoration, celebrating Bruin's festive escape into the city. Bruin means bear, so feel free to rename your new friend as you please.
The badge and decoration featured in ‘Bruin’ are hand painted, made from sustainable plywood and were lasercut in the DCA Print Studio.
Artist's Statement
Cara Rooney is an illustrator and plaything maker from Dundee, communicating a fascination for nature through books, activity trails and live drawings. Through bright colours and bold shapes, Cara communicates a sense of child-like curiosity for the world. She hopes to inspire people to build a connection to the world surrounding us and empathy for the creatures we share our planet with. In sketchbooks, she enjoys translating scenes in and around Dundee into playful illustrations with limited colours.
